Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Yorkshire trainee paediatrician (ST5 or above) with an interest in leadership and management to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Children's Hospital as the Chief Paediatric Registrar.

The role builds on the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) programme already running in the Trust. It will provide higher specialty trainees with the opportunity to develop valuable skills in leadership and management and affords 40 % protected time to put these skills into practice by developing initiatives that address local challenges.

Chief Registrars have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engagement and morale, and education and training. They work to deliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations, supporting their development as future clinical leaders.

Employment details

This is a fixed‑term role for 12 months to commence September 2024. It can be undertaken in‑programme or out‑of‑programme (training or experience). Because of the 40 % leadership commitment the post will extend the trainee’s completion of training (CCT) date and should be discussed with the educational supervisor and training programme director.

Main duties

The Chief Paediatric Registrar will receive local support from a senior clinical leader mentor/supervisor. The role will involve two days of leadership and management per week, with the remainder of the successful applicant’s time dedicated to clinical duties, including contribution to the on‑call rota.

The post is compatible with all rotations at Leeds Children's Hospital, and rota adaptation will ensure two days are dedicated to the leadership and management role.
