Junior clinical fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Applicants are invited for a posts as Junior Clinical Fellows (ST1-2 equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in afriendly, dynamic, large, teaching acute hospital trust.

Thepost holder will work at a level equivalent to that of a ST1-2 trainee.

Applicants must have completed Foundation competencies either as part of the UK Foundation programme or demonstrate equivalent training. Basic Life Support training is essential.

Candidateswill require current valid GMC registration at the time of application.

Main duties of the job

Theabove post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at anST1+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The post offers the successful candidate a wide range of experience inall areas of the specialty. Whilst this post is not recognised for training,the appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet their careerand educational goals.

Therewill be opportunities to develop special interests in the following areas:

Maternal Medicine / Fetal monitoring:
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to get involved in the several specialised maternal medicine clinics which takeplace across both hospitals. These are run by specialists in the field and include diabetes, endocrinology, haematology, cardiology, gastro-intestinal andrheumatology. In addition s/he will be invited to participate in the regular

MDT meetings as well getting involved and leading QI projects and teaching inthe area.

TheFM team consists of two obstetricians and two midwives who are responsible forthe teaching, assessment and clinical governance around fetal monitoring. The successful candidate will help within this team, while also getting involved inlocal and regional discussions around FM teaching and standards.

Thepost holder will also be encouraged to take part in departmental teaching and quality improvement work.

About us

The gynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital(Chancellor Wing) and some elective gynaecology work including clinics, daycase and overnight theatre and hysteroscopy also takes place at Wharfdalehospital.

The fertility service is based at Seacroft Hospital.

The maternity service is based at St James University Hospital (approximately 4,500deliveries per year) and Leeds General Infirmary (approximately 5,200deliveries per year).

Applications are invited for the post of ST1-2 equivalent Junior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The Department undertakes the full range of obstetric and gynaecological careacross four sites (Leeds General Infirmary, St Jamess University Hospital,Seacroft Hospital and Wharfedale Hospital).

Thepost is available for six months with the possibility of extension.

Thepost has been established to allow first on call level doctors to develop and advance their clinical skills and competencies. The successful applicant willbe participating on the first on call rota at Leeds General Infirmary & StJamess University Hospital. They will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in delivery of elective and acute gynaecological and obstetric care including; general gynaecology clinics, ambulatory gynaecology, acute gynaecology and early pregnancy, gynaecology ward cover, elective gynaecology operating, labour ward, antenatal clinics, obstetric ward cover, maternity assessment centre and antenatal day unit cover.

There will be an opportunity toattend specialist obstetric and gynaecology clinics.
