Job Summary
Applicants are invited for a post as Junior Clinical Fellows (ST1‑2 equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The post holder will work at a level equivalent to an ST1‑2 trainee and is expected to have completed Foundation competencies, Basic Life Support training, and hold current GMC registration.
ResponsibilitiesThe role is a 6‑month fixed‑term Junior Clinical Fellow at a large teaching acute hospital trust.
Responsibilities include:
- Clinical work on the first on‑call rota at Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital.
- Provision of obstetric and gynaecological care across four sites:
Leeds General Infirmary, St James’s University Hospital, Seacroft Hospital and Wharfedale Hospital. - Participation in general gynaecology clinics, ambulatory gynaecology, acute gynaecology and early pregnancy, gynaecology ward cover, elective gynaecology operating, labour ward, antenatal clinics, obstetric ward cover, maternity assessment centre and antenatal day unit cover.
- Attendance at specialist obstetric and gynaecology clinics.
- Opportunity to develop special interests in Maternal Medicine, Fetal Monitoring and related clinics.
- Engagement in departmental teaching, quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participation in MDT meetings and QI projects.
Qualifications – Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- Completion of Foundation programme or equivalent.
- Basic Adult Life Support training within the past 12 months.
- Competencies equivalent to ST1.
Qualifications – Desirable
- MRCOG Part 1 exam.
- Research or additional academic publications.
Experience – Essential
- Detailed employment history demonstrating progression.
- Evidence of performance commensurate with training period.
- Initiative, motivation and curiosity.
- Understanding of a career in obstetrics & gynaecology in the UK.
Eligibility, Fitness to Practice & Language – Essential
- Post‑graduate training to at least ST1 level in obstetrics and gynaecology.
- Valid GMC registration at the time of application.
- Familiarity with the UK health system and NHS.
- Fit to practise safely and aware of own training needs.
- Adequate written and spoken English for effective communication.
Clinical, Academic & Personal Skills – Essential
- Sound clinical knowledge and judgement.
- Prioritisation of clinical need.
- Maximising safety and minimising risk.
- Initial management of acutely ill patients.
- Understanding of research, ethics, audit, risk management and evidence‑based practice.
Desirable Clinical, Academic & Personal Skills
- Aptitude for practical skills and manual dexterity.
- Experience in other specialties complementary to obstetrics & gynaecology.
- At least 1 year of experience working in the UK.
Additional Requirements – Essential
- Compliance with professional health requirements (GMC standards / Good Medical Practice).
Salary: £52,656 a year + out‑of‑hours pay.
Contract:
Fixed‑term 6 months, with a possibility of extension.
Working pattern:
Full‑time.
