Clinical Fellow in Anterior Skull Base Surgery
This fellowship post has been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons, the SBNS and ENTUK. We are inviting applications for the ST6-8+ vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Neurosurgery. We seek one dynamic individual to meet the demands of this post.
The Department of Neurosurgery in Leeds provides world‑class adult Neurosurgical Oncology and Skull Base Surgery. The service is consultant‑led and delivered through dedicated sub‑specialty services.
The fellowship is designed for Neurosurgical Clinicians towards the end of UK training and will provide all aspects of sub‑speciality training in Skull Base Surgery in preparation for a consultant role subspecialising in this field.
The Fellow will be fully immersed in the Skull Base Surgery Service. Extensive exposure to Pituitary and Endoscopic skull base surgery will be provided.
Fellowship approval has been received from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Neurosurgery Speciality Association.

This is a fixed‑term position for 1 year, commencing August / September 2026.
Main Duties of the JobThe post provides training to specialist post‑CCT level in endoscopic anterior skull base surgery. Key areas include:
- Pituitary disease (surgery, endocrine management and Rhinology)
- Chordoma and chondrosarcoma, craniopharyngioma, and rare tumours such as olfactory neuroblastoma
- Operative and non‑operative care and patient management
- Contributing to on‑call rota and other clinical responsibilities
Consideration is given to applicants who wish to work full or part time, or who wish to job‑share.
Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC, have a current licence to practice, be eligible to work in the UK and have previous NHS experience.
Responsibilities- Immersion in the Pituitary service and endoscopic skull base management, operative and non‑operative.
- Gain independent competencies in operative management of sella pathology endoscopically, including extended approaches.
- Support ward management, attend specialist clinics and multi‑disciplinary meetings for endocrine and radiosurgical management.
- Participate in research and audit projects related to skull base surgery.
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- ARCP Outcome 1 at ST6 or equivalent experience
- Passed Speciality Fellowship Examination in Neurosurgery or equivalent
- CCT in Neurosurgery
- Apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems.
- Prioritise clinical need and maximise safety.
- Recognise and manage acutely ill patients.
- Demonstrate understanding of research and ethical issues.
- Show commitment to the specialty beyond the mandatory curriculum.
- Evidence of academic and research achievements.
- Experience of teaching.
- Higher degree or interest in pursuing one.
- Approaching completion or recently completed higher neurosurgical training or equivalent.
- Commitment to a career as a neurosurgeon with a major subspecialist interest in endoscopic skull base surgery.
- Desire to develop consultant‑level subspecialty skills in endoscopic skull base surgery.
- Provide complete employment history and demonstrate career progression.
- Full registration with the GMC and current licence to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Fit to practise and aware of training needs.
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English (e.g. IELTS 7.0+ each domain, overall 7.5).
- Alternative evidence accepted if evidence of adequate communication skills.
- Meets professional health requirements.
- Enthusiasm for all aspects of anterior endoscopic skull base surgery.
- Ability to work in a team.
