These posts represent phase 2 of this expansion, we are looking to recruit up to 4 additional stroke consultants who will join a friendly and pro-active department, looking to lead in clinical service provision, teaching and training, service development and audit. We are an accredited Hyperacute stroke research centre and an interest in research would be supported
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for applicants for new posts within the Neurosciences Department at the Leeds General Infirmary.
Hyperacute stroke treatments have expanded significantly over the last 5 years and in line with NHSE commissioning 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy services, and as the comprehensive stroke centre for West Yorkshire, we have an exciting opportunity to expand our medical workforce in order to deliver this.

In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. Applicants should have established skills in Stroke Medicine and its related specialties. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on:'How can we marry health and wellbeing, workforce resilience and the need for expansion of stroke services over the next decade in Leeds'INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD: 21 October 2026
Why you should join our Team The Centre for Neurosciences CSU provides the clinical management support for the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neurophysiology. Mr Robert Rathbone is the General Manager of the CSU, Dr Jonathan Bilmen is Clinical Director and Mr Robin Darby is Head of Nursing. Dr Maruthi Vinjam is Clinical Lead for Neurology and Dr Marissa Minns is Clinical Lead for Stroke.
Ms Linda Hayward is the Business Manager for Stroke and Neurology.
