Locum Consultant in the department of Gynae Oncology Surgery This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Gynae Oncology team (Mr Broadhead, Mr Nugent, Miss Kaufmann, Mr Theophilou, Miss Thangavelu, Mr de Jong). The post-holder will provide clinical, theatre and on call activities. There will be opportunities to contribute to MDT and Departmental meetings. The post will be based at St James' University Hospital.

The successful applicant should hold accreditation in Gynae Oncology in the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in Gynae Oncology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Surgeon to join the Gynaecological Oncology Surgical Department for a fixed-term period of 6 months. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly regarded, specialist multidisciplinary team delivering complex gynaecological oncology surgery to patients across Leeds and the wider region. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care, support elective and emergency surgical pathways, and work collaboratively with colleagues across oncology, radiology, pathology, anaesthetics, specialist nursing and wider cancer services.

The Department of Gynaecological Oncology within the Leeds Cancer Centre, is centralised on the St James's Hospital site within the flagship Bexley Wing, a purpose-built facility which opened in late 2007. It is the 3rd largest cancer centre in the UK and in addition to housing the Gynaecological Oncology surgical service (ward, theatres, outpatient clinics, central MDT, secretarial and office accommodation) it also encompasses within a single wing other specialist cancer surgery, non-surgical oncology including gynaecological medical and clinical oncology, state of the art imaging and radiotherapy services, pathology, cancer registry and clinical trials offices with protected research beds.

This is a locum post to cover a leave of absence, to maintain the existing complement of 6 Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons, to ensure the Trust continues to appropriately manage all patients requiring treatment for gynaecological malignancy within national cancer waiting time targets. Following centralisation the Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons established outreach services across the Yorkshire region and this post will also provide an outreach clinic and a unit MDT on a weekly basis.

The surgical service is based on Ward J98, a dedicated 14-bed gynaecological oncology facility in Bexley Wing. There is a state-of-the-art theatre suite that includes high-definition laparoscopic equipment with a Stryker Spy-Phi for ICG sentinel node detection and support from a dedicated anaesthetic and theatre team.
