Locum Consultant in The Neonatal DepartmentThis is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Neonatologist. This post will be available from December 2026 for a period of 6 months.
The duties of this post will be to provide consultant led clinical duties on the Leeds General Infirmary and St James's sites (6 in 18 weeks), alongside the 17 other neonatologists. On call duties are 1:6 weekend (LGI or SJUH) with resident on call night shift cover provided to the LGI.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in Paediatrics (subspeciality neonates) in the Royal College of Paediatrics or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills in Tertiary (level
3) Neonatal Care and it's related specialties. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

The Role
- We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our workforce.
- To provide weekday Consultant cover and weeknight on call (1 in 6 alternating site) to the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Leeds General Infirmary and the Local Neonatal Unit at St James's Hospital.
- To provide weekend consultant led care to the two regional neonatal units within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (1 in 6 weekends).
- To provide, in conjunction with the existing consultants, supervision of neonatal care on the NICU, Postnatal and Transitional Care wards. This will require working on both Neonatal Units by rotation.
- To assist in delivering the induction and training programme for junior doctors. To contribute to the effective training and clinical supervision of medical staff within the Neonatal Service.
