Salary£27,663 – £37,875 per annum plus a Community Homes Allowance of £2,895 and a Secure Unit Allowance of £3,020.

Job PurposeLead a team of care practitioners in providing high‑quality vocational training in motor vehicle studies to 24 young people aged 10‑18. Inspire positive change, develop attitudes, behaviours, learning and emotions, and help each young person grow up to make a positive contribution to their family and wider community.
Responsibilities- Establish a safe, stimulating, and respectful learning environment.
- Set high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
- Be accountable for pupils’ attainment, progress and outcomes.
- Plan and deliver training that builds on pupils’ capabilities and prior knowledge.
- Guide pupils to reflect on progress and emerging needs.
- Demonstrate a secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and vocational training areas.
- Promote high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English.
- Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time.
- Promote a love of learning and intellectual curiosity.
- Set homework and plan out‑of‑class activities to consolidate learning.
- Reflect systematically on lesson effectiveness and approaches.
- Contribute to the design and provision of an engaging vocational training curriculum.
- Use appropriate differentiation to meet the strengths and needs of all pupils.
- Assess the curriculum, make use of formative and summative assessment, and use data to monitor progress.
- Provide regular oral feedback and accurate marking.
- Have clear rules, routines and a framework for behaviour.
- Promote good and courteous behaviour in line with the behaviour policy.
- Manage classes effectively, using strategies that involve and motivate pupils.
- Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary.
- Be familiar with risk assessments for pupils and activities.
- Undertake safety and security checks of teaching areas as per procedure.
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the home.
- Build professional relationships with colleagues and specialists.
- Deploy support staff effectively and seek professional development opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with parents and external agencies regarding pupils’ achievements and well‑being.
- Participate in training and development activities and undertake other duties as required by the Head of Education.
- Comply with all Leeds City Council policies, procedures, and staff instructions, including health and safety.
- Actively promote and support equality, diversity, and an anti‑oppressive approach.
- Prepare for the role in line with statutory regulations and special jurisdictional offsets for secure home practice.
- Level 4 or above qualification in Motor Vehicles.
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (including Maths and English) or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2.
- Ability to provide instruction in vocational training.
- IT skills (MS Office Word, Excel and database programmes, e‑mail, Internet).
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Active listening, questioning, clarifying and checking understanding.
- Positive and objective handling of challenging pupils.
- Ability to work as part of a team, using own initiative, and adhering to strict timescales.
- Development and maintenance of administrative systems and databases.
- Facilitation of instruction for pupils with diverse learning styles and needs.
- Management of self under pressure.
- Experience with challenging pupils and in crisis situations.
- Experience with external agencies in pupil support.
- At least two years of experience delivering vocational training in a motor vehicle setting.
- Knowledge of the Ofsted framework for education.
- Understanding and embracing Leeds City Council values and behaviours.
