Teaching Assistant
- Communication Provision
Location: Communication Provision attached to a Primary School
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term (Permanent opportunity for the right candidate)
Pay: £94 -£104 per day
Start Date: ASAP
PK Education is excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate individual to join a specialist communication provision within a primary school. This role involves working full-time with primary-aged pupils who have autism and profound communication and language difficulties, most of whom are non-verbal. You will play a pivotal role in supporting their learning, communication, and social development.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism and communication/language difficulties
- Assist in developing and implementing individualised learning plans and interventions
- Support pupils in making progress in communication, social skills, and academic learning
- Use alternative communication methods such as AAC, Makaton, and PECS to help non-verbal pupils express themselves
- Collaborate with class teachers, speech and language therapists, and other professionals to create a positive learning environment
- Provide personal care and support as needed, ensuring pupils health, safety, and well-being
- Encourage social skill development, independence, and confidence, promoting an inclusive environment
- Experience working with children with autism or communication/language difficulties, ideally in a school or specialist setting
- Understanding of non-verbal communication and experience using Makaton, PECS, or AAC
- Patient, empathetic, and flexible, with a genuine passion for working with children with complex needs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with professionals
- Positive, proactive attitude and adaptable to the individual needs of each pupil
- Background in education, child development, or a related field is desirable, though training and support will be provided
