Complex Needs Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting on behalf of a primary school in Leeds that provides high-quality education for children and young people. The school are looking for a teaching assistant with experience with complex Autism and Communication & Interaction needs. This exceptional setting is looking to welcome a dedicated Support Worker who can offer both resilience and warmth in equal measure.

About the School

This is a well-established school that has a resourced provision on site that supports pupils with a wide range of complex needs. Students may present with sensory-based behaviours, communication challenges, and varying levels of independence. The staff team is skilled, welcoming, and fully committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and adaptable learning environment.

The Role

As a Complex Needs Teaching assistant you will work across different phases of the school depending on need. Your day may involve supporting pupils who exhibit challenging behaviour linked to sensory processing or social understanding, as well as working gently and patiently with learners who require a calmer, more reassuring approach.

Duties
  • Supporting pupils with Autism and complex communication needs
  • Managing behaviours that can be unpredictable or sensory-driven
  • Providing a nurturing, structured, and safe environment
  • Assisting with personal care when required
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Adapting your approach to meet individual needs
  • Encouraging positive engagement and independence
Qualifications
  • Lived experience supporting individuals with Autism or complex learning need
  • Background in support work, care, SEN, or related fields (children or adults)
  • Confidence in managing challenging behaviour with a calm, consistent approach
  • A nurturing, patient manner for pupils needing softer support
  • Willingness to work across age groups (3–19)
  • Reliability, emotional resilience, and a genuine passion for inclusive support

Availability full-time, Monday–Friday
