The RoleStudent Success Tutors (SSTs) provide direct support for assigned students and groups through student meetings, proactive holistic support, and coaching. They also provide indirect support via email, phone, and tracking academic performance with the Faculty Manager as required.
Collaborate within the faculty and across departments to triage student problems and direct them to specialist services, enabling GBS colleagues to deliver an excellent learning journey.
You will help students through their learning journey and on to enhanced life opportunities, benefiting themselves, families, communities, and society.
Work 40 hours per week across day, evening, and weekend classes. Shifts may fall in the afternoon, evenings, and weekends.
Note: This role is not eligible for sponsorship.
Responsibilities- Support students in and outside of the classroom to increase outcomes (attendance, submission rates, MEQ completion rates and student satisfaction)
- Have excellent working knowledge of GBS policies, procedures and academic regulations; knowledge of intercalation/top‑up opportunities and supporting student organisational and learning needs
- Proactively identify and support students who may be at risk, including meeting students before or after class, calling students, and following up once support is provided
- Assist students with workload management and life organisational skills; contribute to faculty student monitoring meetings, offer information and insight, actively follow up on cases and report back
- Guide and signpost students towards further support as necessary; follow up with colleagues and students to ensure relevant support is in place.
- Experience of working in FE/HE and in academic coaching
- Experience in a widening participation environment or as a teaching assistant
- Bachelor’s degree
- Effective people, organisational and conflict management skills
- Ability to be flexible to work days, evenings and weekends as required
- Evidence of performance to the highest standards of professionalism within a student‑focused service approach
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Committed team player able to work under pressure to tight timelines
- Demonstrate a proactive outlook to work
- 25 days annual leave, plus 8 public holidays
