A welcoming and inclusive school in Leeds is seeking a dedicated Regulation Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from September. The school provides a supportive learning environment for children and young people with a range of additional needs, focusing on emotional regulation, wellbeing, independence, and positive engagement in learning. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping pupils develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed both academically and socially.
This role has the view to become permanent.
- Support pupils in developing emotional regulation strategies, helping them to manage feelings, behaviours, and transitions throughout the school day.
- Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to implement individual support plans and promote positive outcomes for pupils.
- Use calm, consistent, and nurturing approaches to build trusting relationships and create a safe, supportive environment.
- Support pupils during lessons, social times, and structured activities, encouraging participation, engagement, and independence.
- Recognise signs of dysregulation and implement appropriate interventions to help pupils re-engage with learning and school routines.
- Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, and self-confidence through praise, guidance, and effective communication.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to monitoring pupils’ progress and wellbeing.
- Experience supporting children or young people in education, care, youth work, residential settings, or similar environments.
- An understanding of emotional regulation, behaviour support, and the challenges that can impact a young person’s ability to engage in learning.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
- Confidence in using a range of strategies to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, Health & Social Care, Psychology, or equivalent experience are desirable.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential.
