Position: People Movement Consultant

Overview

People Movement Consultant at Buro Happold. The Analytics & Crowd Dynamics team works on unique, people-centric projects around the world, using crowd flow simulations and other methods to analyse crowd behaviour, visitor movement and management. We optimise spaces such as airports, museums, theatres, workplaces, stadia, campuses and urban spaces, with a focus on practical solutions that impact user experience, performance and crowd management.

The work is varied and challenging, involving complex modelling as well as day-to-day design and management advice to architects and clients. We seek dynamic, enthusiastic and organized candidates who can work independently across all project phases from inception to delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Work across several interesting projects from a diverse range of sectors.
  • Deliver top quality crowd flow / people movement consultancy with international clients and stakeholders.
  • Hone modelling skills and provide day-to-day design and management advice to architects and clients.
  • Contribute fresh, innovative ideas in group meetings and team discussions.
  • Develop an understanding of standards and methods applied to different scenarios and techniques used across sectors.
  • Deliver static and dynamic models with support from senior consultants, prepare reports and provide findings and recommendations based on analysis and data.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to manage client expectations, conduct site observations and present project outcomes.
Your skills & experience
  • A degree in a relevant subject (e.g., transport, mathematics, economics, statistics, operational research, geo-spatial analysis, physics, organizational psychology, engineering).
  • Some industry experience is required.
  • Eagerness to learn and work as part of a specialist team across disciplines.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Experience analysing and interpreting data sets; training provided for movement-related data (crowd, pedestrian, transport).
  • Awareness of crowd modelling packages (e.g., Legion, Pathfinder, Mass Motion, Viswalk) or other modelling backgrounds such as traffic microsimulation.
  • Ability to present and communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner.
  • Desirable experience using GIS software to analyse and visualise geospatial data (ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Interest and/or experience in visual programming to assist modelling (e.g., Grasshopper).
  • Confident with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is beneficial.
