Overview of the Role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Consultant to contribute to a growing pipeline of exciting opportunities within the Environmental & Sustainability Services (ESS) team, which consists of over 100 professionals across 18 offices. The UK‑based role could be based in any of 20+ offices, with a preference for the locations listed above and potential travel within the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead EIA screening and scoping, production of Environmental Statements and other environmental reports.
  • Coordinate technical input from multi‑disciplinary specialists.
  • Manage programmes, resources and finances on environmental projects.
  • Undertake business development and proposal writing for environmental services.
  • Client liaison and stakeholder engagement.
  • Mentor and line‑manage environmental team members.
  • Opportunity to develop an environmental technical specialism.
Candidate Specification Essential
  • Relevant academic/professional qualifications.
  • Chartership through a relevant organisation (IEMA, IES, CIWEM or similar).
  • Extensive experience in environmental assessment, EIA, SEA, UK environmental planning legislation and/or ESG, sustainability strategy and appraisal for infrastructure projects.
  • Client‑facing experience with ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong planning and management skills, delivering high quality deliverables, budgets and programmes.
  • Experience working in diverse multi‑disciplinary teams and leading them to high‑standard environmental and sustainability deliverables.
Desirable (but not essential)
  • Bid/tender delivery experience.
  • Experience with TWAO and/or DCO schemes, and work in water, defence, energy, marine or rail sectors.
  • People‑management experience and staff development support.
  • Delivery of environmental and sustainability workshops or training, online and in‑person.
