Position DescriptionDue to ongoing growth and expansion an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Controls Development Team Leader in the Controls team, to report to James Holding, Controls Software & Development Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of Development Engineers aligned with specific development projects to meet agreed requirements, budget and timescales
- Lead the development of our Cooling Ai suite of AI products
- Develop new Controls products, either new software, hardware, AI/ML enhancements or a combination to improve existing products or allow the Sales team to sell new products to market
- Responsibility for delivering up to 4 development projects to market per year on time and to a high standard within P&L targets for the team
- Take part in internal R&D efforts, applying state-of-the-art AI research to build impactful demonstrations and solutions
- Hold team project briefings as and when required
- Keep a track of the project progress and status and issue reports to the wider team
- Determine training requirements for the development team and mentor less experienced engineers
- Monitor individual performance of members within the development team and help set targets for individual progression
- Inform the Controls Software & Development Manager of any issues that may require investigation or disciplinary action
- Make recommendations to improve and achieve departmental targets
- To understand, promote and contribute to the company health and safety, risk assessment and environmental policies within the Controls team
- Some site work may be required to gather data, train AI models or test new products in the field before deployment to market
- Cooling Optimisation: AI-powered control systems that maximise efficiency and resilience in data centre cooling.
- Building Management Systems (ACIS):
Our proprietary platform offers full-site monitoring and cutting-edge features developed in-house. - Power Management Systems (PMS):
Advanced systems for millisecond-precision monitoring of power events and CBEMA curve analysis. - Remote Monitoring & Machine Learning:
Predictive maintenance tools using machine learning to detect issues like gas loss below 5% of total charge.
- A keen interest in applying AI to real-world industrial problems
- Experience with neural networks and other ML architectures
- Familiarity with ML frameworks such as Tensor Flow or Py Torch
- Programming experience in Python
- Deployment using Docker containerisation
- Understanding of version control (e.g. Git).
- Experience with Tridium Niagara 4 & AX software and controllers would be an advantage
- An understanding of HVAC refrigeration systems would be an advantage
- Minimum Degree level in an Engineering discipline. AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science and Engineering are preferred.
- Appreciation of data centre HVAC applications and products, especially Chillers, CRAH, CRAC, CDU and FWU
- Good communication skills
- Supervisory experience would be an advantage
- Ability to maintain good working relationships within all levels of the Company
- Safety, Environmental & Quality awareness
- Ability to challenge should an employee not be working to the expected level required
- A desire to pioneer new and innovative solutions with “outside the box” thinking.
- Must be able to work on projects autonomously, be self-motivated and able to take initiative.
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards problem solving and building a strong team.
- The ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
