Civil Design Engineer

Location: Leeds
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

I'm currently working with a leading, award-winning multidisciplinary design practice that is looking to appoint a Civil Design Engineer to join its Leeds office.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and technically strong engineer who is passionate about sustainable design and shaping the built environment in a more positive and responsible way. The organisation is known for combining art, science and systems thinking to deliver impactful solutions for people, places, and the planet.

Based in the Leeds office, you'll be joining a collaborative, design-led environment alongside architects, engineers, and wider built environment professionals, with the flexibility to connect and work with teams across other UK and Ireland offices where needed.

The Role

As a Civil Design Engineer, you will contribute to the design and delivery of infrastructure and civil engineering projects across a wide range of sectors, including residential, education, commercial, development, and regeneration schemes.

You will be involved in all stages of project delivery, from early concept design through to construction support, working closely with internal teams and external clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering civil and structural engineering design across multiple projects.
  • Preparing, reviewing and checking drawings, calculations and technical outputs.
  • Briefing and coordinating engineers and technicians on project deliverables.
  • Attending site visits, project meetings and design workshops.
  • Undertaking occasional construction site inspections and surveys.
  • Supporting internal design reviews, critiques and quality assurance processes.
  • Assisting senior staff and directors with project delivery.
  • Producing technical reports and supporting specification writing.
  • Supporting project resource planning and deadline management.
  • Contributing to CDM 2015 compliance as a Designer.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal Quality Management Systems (QMS).
About You

To be successful in this role, you will be:

  • Recently chartered or actively working towards chartership.
  • A creative and forward-thinking engineer with a passion for sustainable design.
  • Experienced in civil engineering design within a consultancy or multidisciplinary environment.
  • Confident in preparing and reviewing technical drawings and calculations.
  • Comfortable working across multiple sectors and project stages.
  • Strong in communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Interested in mentoring and supporting junior engineers.
  • Commercially aware with an understanding of project delivery and deadlines.
  • Passionate about the built environment, architecture, and placemaking.
What's on Offer?

In return, my client offers a highly progressive and flexible working environment with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, development and sustainability, including:

  • Competitive salary reflective of experience and market rates.
  • Flexible working with core hours (10:30am-4:30pm) and early Friday finish.
  • Hybrid working model (typically 3 days in the studio per week).
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Additional annual leave days based on length of service.
  • Option to buy/sell holiday or bank leave for extended sabbaticals.
  • Enhanced family leave policies (maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, neonatal and carers leave).
  • Comprehensive wellbeing support including mental health first aiders and EAP access.
  • Private healthcare cash plan, life assurance and gym discounts.
  • Enhanced sick pay and mental health leave provisions.
  • Strong Equity, Diversity & Inclusion network and volunteering opportunities.
  • Paid professional memberships and extensive learning & development programme.
  • Chartership support, mentoring and internal academy training.
  • Workplace pension scheme and nursery salary sacrifice options.
  • Sustainable travel benefits including season ticket loans and cycle to work schemes.
