Systems & Safety Engineer (Rail) — a role designed for a postgraduate systems or safety engineer ready to build a career supporting complex rail programme delivery, working alongside senior systems and safety engineers on compliance, assurance and evidence-based decision making. The Opportunity
Our client is a respected rail engineering consultancy known for delivering high-quality engineering, systems and assurance expertise across major rail programmes. As they continue to grow their Systems Engineering capability, they are seeking a Systems & Safety Engineer to support senior colleagues across live rail programme delivery.
This role plays a genuinely hands-on part in ensuring systems and safety deliverables are defined, traced, verified and evidenced throughout the project lifecycle — helping deliver safe, reliable and compliant outcomes for clients and end users.
Key Responsibilities- Supporting systems and safety deliverables across major rail programmes
- Managing requirements and maintaining traceability throughout the project lifecycle
- Assisting with verification and validation (V&V) activities and building evidence packs
- Working closely with senior systems and safety engineers on compliance and assurance
- Contributing to documentation, hazard logs, and cross-discipline interface discussions
- Supporting wider programme assurance activity as required
While full training and mentoring will be provided, candidates with any exposure to hazard logs, safety case development, or wider safety-related risk assessment will bring useful additional depth. Not essential, but a strong complement to solid systems engineering fundamentals.
What You'll Bring- A postgraduate qualification in systems engineering, safety engineering, or a related discipline
- Around 2-3 years' relevant experience
- Based in Leeds or within approximately an hour's commute
- An understanding of requirements management and traceability principles
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with multi-disciplinary teams
- A genuine interest in rail systems safety and assurance work
