Position: Systems And Saqfety Engineer (Rail)

Systems & Safety Engineer (Rail) — a role designed for a postgraduate systems or safety engineer ready to build a career supporting complex rail programme delivery, working alongside senior systems and safety engineers on compliance, assurance and evidence-based decision making. The Opportunity

Our client is a respected rail engineering consultancy known for delivering high-quality engineering, systems and assurance expertise across major rail programmes. As they continue to grow their Systems Engineering capability, they are seeking a Systems & Safety Engineer to support senior colleagues across live rail programme delivery.

This role plays a genuinely hands-on part in ensuring systems and safety deliverables are defined, traced, verified and evidenced throughout the project lifecycle — helping deliver safe, reliable and compliant outcomes for clients and end users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting systems and safety deliverables across major rail programmes
  • Managing requirements and maintaining traceability throughout the project lifecycle
  • Assisting with verification and validation (V&V) activities and building evidence packs
  • Working closely with senior systems and safety engineers on compliance and assurance
  • Contributing to documentation, hazard logs, and cross-discipline interface discussions
  • Supporting wider programme assurance activity as required
Safety & Hazard Log Experience — A Valuable Bonus

While full training and mentoring will be provided, candidates with any exposure to hazard logs, safety case development, or wider safety-related risk assessment will bring useful additional depth. Not essential, but a strong complement to solid systems engineering fundamentals.

What You'll Bring
  • A postgraduate qualification in systems engineering, safety engineering, or a related discipline
  • Around 2-3 years' relevant experience
  • Based in Leeds or within approximately an hour's commute
  • An understanding of requirements management and traceability principles
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • A genuine interest in rail systems safety and assurance work
What This Role Offers
  • The chance to build a career supporting major rail programme delivery
  • A consultancy environment that invests properly in developing engineers early in their career
  • Direct mentoring from senior systems and safety engineers
  • Clear progression pathways within systems engineering and assurance
