Position: Policy Advisor for Recall Policy - Youth Justice and Offender Policy

We are looking for a motivated policy professional to join a welcoming and supportive team to help address the growing recall population and improve the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and monitor policy on recall reforms within the Sentencing Act.
  • Identify and develop non‑legislative policy options for further reforms to the recall process.
  • Provide critical policy support and evidence‑based advice to senior leaders, Ministers, Parliamentarians and stakeholders.
  • Prepare oral and written briefings, parliamentary questions and correspondence.
  • Scoping, planning and managing projects, including risk, issue and dependency management.
  • Maintain and own close relationships with MoJ, HMPPS, government departments and third‑sector partners.
  • Deliver clear, well‑researched and timely advice on live policy matters and prison demand and release perspectives.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively across teams and confidently represent government with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adjust to changing demands, prioritising work accordingly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, tailoring work to different audiences.
  • Strong influencing skills, including the confidence to provide constructive challenge.
  • Creative problem‑solving skills and ability to propose innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work closely with operational colleagues, analysts and lawyers to understand data, legal framework and policy issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand complex information from a range of sources and fit it into the wider picture.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience working on criminal justice policy.
  • Experience working with data.
