Hours of Work

Based at Broomfield SILC Main site. Hours will be completed between 8.30 – 4.00pm depending on the needs of young people and staff teams.

About the School

Broomfield SILC is a generic special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with 4 sites: the main site and three partnership sites at Windmill Primary, Rodillian Secondary and White Rose Post 16. The school caters to a wide range of needs from moderate learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties, complex and multiple learning needs, Autism and social, emotional and mental health needs.

Students may have additional needs including physical, medical, speech and language, visual, hearing or sensory impairment. With over 270 pupils on roll, the school recently secured a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating in March 2023, praised for high ambition, high aspirations for all pupils and proud staff. Broomfield is rebuilding and will open to an additional 100 young people in September 2027.

Role Overview

The Speech and Language Therapy Assistant will support the Speech and Language Therapist in delivering a tailored Speech and Language Therapy provision across Broomfield South SILC to young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). The role will enable students to access specialist services, develop communication skills and gain independence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Speech and Language Therapist to deliver the speech and language therapy provision.
  • Run intervention groups under the supervision of the Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Attend and contribute to group supervision and other meetings.
  • Provide individualised support, including creation of communication books and therapy resources.
  • Maintain accurate clinical notes and files in line with service delivery.
  • Support class teams to embed recommended strategies and uphold the Speech and Language Therapist’s recommendations.
  • Implement all school policies to the highest standards, including safeguarding and positive behaviour procedures.
  • Carry out additional duties as directed by the Speech and Language Therapist or senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience working with young people with Complex Autism, communication needs and SEMH.
  • Experience working alongside a Speech and Language Therapist to implement strategies and intervention plans.
  • Working knowledge of Boardmaker is advantageous.
  • Experience in the care, education or health sector is essential.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team, prioritising tasks and managing time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to structure play to facilitate language development.
  • Understanding of speech, language and communication development is desirable.
