Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow in Cardiac Devices at Leeds General Infirmary. This post is for 12 months (commencing September 2026) and will enable the successful applicant to consolidate their cardiology training with ayear of specialist training in all aspects of complex devices including extraction in a busy tertiary referral centre.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute NHS Trust which is responsible for a comprehensive range of healthcare services to a local population of 3million patients. Leeds General Infirmary performs in excess of 1000implantable device procedures per annum. Training opportunities will be tailored to the successful candidate, taking level of experience and training needs into consideration. The successful candidate will receive practical experiential training in basic and complex device procedures, leadless pacing,conduction system pacing, sub-cutaneous ICD implantation and device troubleshooting and follow up.

As a high volume regional extraction centre, the successful candidate will also have opportunities to gain experience in thefield of trans-venous lead extraction techniques.

In addition to lab experience and training, the successful applicant will be given opportunities to contribute to our existing research program and quality improvement projects.

Main duties of the job

Thispost would be suitable for applicants with CCT (or within one year) in Cardiology who already have training in cardiac device implantation, but wishto increase their experience and procedural numbers. There is no General Cardiology on-call commitment.

Thepost would consist of a weekly commitment of 3 all day cath lab sessions which would include: assessment and evaluation of patients undergoing device procedures, performing device procedures under supervision and to be involved in post-procedure device management.

In addition there would be a weekly commitment of one heart failure clinic(focussed around complex devices), as well as opportunities to lead on clinical service development, research and the local box change MDT pathway.

The post-holder will be encouraged to attend relevant courses and meetings throughout the year as appropriate and to submit research posters or clinical cases.

This appointment will be based at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary, one of the largest and most modern tertiary cardiac centres in theUK, serving a population of over 3 million. There are 6 state of the art Cardiac Catheter laboratories, with over 2000 PCIs, including 24/7 primary PCI,over 900 invasive electrophysiology/cardiac ablations and in excess of 700implantable device procedures per annum, making the West Yorkshire Heart Centreone of the highest volume units in the UK.

The TAVI service is the largest inthe UK outside of London. In addition, cardiac MRI, adult congenital cardiology, paediatric cardiology and interventional paediatric cardiology, aswell as adult and paediatric cardiac surgical services, all complement eachother within the same site.

The department consists of 2 inpatient wards (one acute admissions cardiology ward), a day case interventional ward, a day case seated suite, 6 lab catheter suite and a 10 bed CCU.

Thepost is fixed term for one year (starting September 2026), with options toextend if mutually agreed.

The candidate will be expected to provide supervised input into the care of device patients. The post would be ideally suited to those approaching or having achieved CCT (or equivalent) in cardiology with a subspecialty interest incomplex devices. The role will include outpatient and inpatient management,device implantation and follow up. There will be an expectation to become involved in leading service evolution and waste reduction programmes.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the departments research and clinical trials programme.
