Job Overview

Do you have experience supporting people in the community? Are you looking for something new, interesting and stimulating which offers the opportunity to use and enhance your experience? If so, the Dorset Integrated Non-Custodial Service is recruiting a full time Assistant Psychologist to support people who have been given a Mental Health Treatment Requirement alongside a community sentence by the Magistrates’ or Crown Court.

The Dorset Integrated Non‑Custodial Service supports people who are suspected of committing a crime, going to Court or being released from prison. We work with people who have a mental health illness, learning disability, substance misuse problems or other vulnerabilities. Our aim is to reduce re‑offending by giving people the right support and access to services.

Responsibilities
  • Screen referrals and carry out assessments to determine if an MHTR would be of benefit to the client.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate psychosocial interventions with clients whilst supporting them with their mental health and other vulnerabilities.
  • Communicate, provide and receive complex, sensitive and at times contentious information requiring persuasive, motivational, negotiating and empathetic skills.
  • Liaise with Court and the Probation Service on the progress of the requirement, report any breaches and help the client re‑engage and successfully complete their requirement within the specified time frame.
  • Work with adults with complex mental health needs and other vulnerabilities across the whole of Dorset, travelling as required and responding to cover across the county.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience supporting people in the community.
  • Ability to work with adults with complex mental health needs.
  • Strong persuasive, motivational, negotiating and empathetic communication skills.
  • Full and valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Willingness to travel across Dorset as required.
Benefits

We are an outstanding Trust (CQC rated 'Outstanding' in 2019) with a mission to empower people through outstanding, joined‑up healthcare services. We celebrate diversity, offer a supportive and inclusive workplace, and provide opportunities to build a career in a dynamic, forward‑looking environment.
