Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for Occupational Therapists to join an established mental health rotation. The rotation spans multiple settings across Leeds and York, including Adult and Older Peoples Acute Inpatient Services, Dementia Inpatient Intensive Community Services, Adult and Older People Community Mental Health Teams, Care Homes Service, Assertive Outreach, Rehabilitation and Recovery Services, Forensic Service, CAMHS Inpatient, Complex Emotional Needs Service, Learning Disabilities Community Team and Primary Care Mental Health.
Key Responsibilities- Embrace an occupational therapy perspective within the clinical setting through verbal and written communication
- Participate in the occupational therapy professional support structure such as the Preceptorship Development Programme (if applicable)
- Maintain accurate clinical records and statistical information in accordance with professional standards
- Gain consent and build collaborative relationships with Service Users, adapting to barriers in communication (emotional, psychological, physical)
- Coordinate and communicate care packages or treatment plans for defined Service Users both verbally (ward rounds, team integration, telephone) and non‑verbally (care planning, reports, documentation, carers, other agencies)
- Accredited qualification in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration
- Clear understanding of the OT process and knowledge of theoretical frameworks, models, approaches and OT assessment tools
- Maintain up‑to‑date professional, legal and technical standards of practice in accordance with professional codes of conduct
- Demonstrate use of occupational therapy core skills using a person‑centred approach within a caseload appropriate to the team you are based in
- Assess and observe functional potential, limitations, ability and needs, including the effects of physical and psychosocial environments
- Enable Service Users to explore, achieve and maintain balance in activities of daily living (personal care, domestic, leisure and productive activities)
- Identify and solve occupational performance problems
- Use activities to promote health, wellbeing and function by analysing, selecting, synthesising, adapting, grading and applying activities for specific therapeutic purposes
- Plan, organise and lead activity groups
- Analyse and adapt environments to increase function and social participation
- Use risk assessments to establish therapeutic potential
- Comprehensive understanding of group work as a therapeutic medium
- Demonstrate non‑judgmental, respectful behaviour and value diversity
- Make effective decisions regarding treatment options based on available resources
- Be aware of the team clinical governance agenda and contribute to service development according to priorities
- Delegate safely, seek support when required for competency gaps
- Participate in planning, evaluation, and delivery of therapeutic group and activity programmes appropriate to the clinical setting
- Contribute to the day‑to‑day running of the team based in

- Provide full and comprehensive clinical Occupational Therapy input to Service Users and carers within the clinical setting
- Be responsible and accountable for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment for defined Service Users, individually and in groups
- Contribute to service developments within the team and profession
- Maintain clear links with professional structures and leadership within the Trust
- Support the profession’s development and modernisation, adhering to standards and codes of practice
