How you’ll help us make health happen.As a Housekeeping Assistant, you will help ensure that all hospital areas are cleaned to the highest standards, following strict infection control procedures and housekeeping policies. Your work directly contributes to patient comfort, dignity and safety, making this a rewarding role for someone who takes pride in delivering excellent work.
You will clean patient rooms, clinical areas and shared spaces, check rooms upon completion, maintain equipment and storerooms, and support the wider Facilities and Hotel Services teams. You’ll also assist in the Linen Room when required, ensuring linen, laundry and uniform processes run efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out cleaning tasks in line with housekeeping policies, hospital cleaning procedures and infection control guidelines.
- Clean patient rooms, clinical areas, equipment and floors, ensuring all work is checked and documented.
- Maintain housekeeping storerooms and ensure cleaning equipment and materials are used and stored correctly.
- Support linen and laundry operations, including delivery, checking, issuing and organising hospital linen and uniforms.
- Report maintenance issues promptly to Team Leaders and follow up on any discrepancies.
- Comply with COSHH regulations, colour‑coding systems, health and safety policies, and hospital evacuation procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and mandatory training, ensuring practices remain up to date.
- Provide cover for colleagues during holidays/sickness and support with late discharges, early admissions and night‑shift cleaning when required.
- A positive, dependable attitude and a strong commitment to high cleaning standards.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Understanding of confidentiality, safety and professionalism within a healthcare environment.
- Flexibility to work across different departments and shifts, including occasional nights.
