Applications are invited for a 5 yr fixed-term, 0.5 WTE Band 8A position for a Principal Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy Physics, Medical Physics and Engineering, Leeds Cancer Centre, St Jamess University Hospital.
OverviewThe post-holder will provide specialist expertise to support the Radiotherapy Imaging Group & contribute to other areas of radiotherapy physics. A strong interest in research and innovation is desirable. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a radiotherapy physicist with the skills and experience to operate at the level of a Medical Physics Expert (MPE). The successful candidate will be highly motivated and will work closely with the multi-professional team responsible for integrating advanced imaging technologies into the radiotherapy service.
Key responsibilities include commissioning, clinical implementation, contributing to the strategic development of imaging in radiotherapy and opportunities to participate in and lead research and innovation activities, including support for clinical trials.
Leeds Cancer Centre is a major treatment centre delivering over 7,800 new radiotherapy plans annually. The department is equipped with advanced technology, including Elekta linear accelerators, CT and MR simulators, SGRT, Ray Station TPS, HDR brachytherapy, prostate brachytherapy, and Gamma Knife ICON.

Main duties of the job- To fulfil the role of Medical Physics Expert as required by the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017, IR(ME)
R (Statutory Instrument 2017 No.1322). - To provide Medical Physics Expert (MPE) advice and support for the provision of radiotherapy within the Trust. Area of expertise will include one or more of the following: radiotherapy technology/equipment and systems, Brachytherapy and Gamma Knife, radiotherapy treatment planning, radiotherapy imaging, radiotherapy research and innovation. Duties to include equipment installation, acceptance, commissioning, calibration, dosimetry, quality assurance and quality control. Radiotherapy, Brachytherapy and/or Gamma Knife treatment planning, plan checking and technique development;
Radiotherapy Imaging clinical support, technique development and clinical implementation. - To give expert Medical Physics advice on radiotherapy dosimetry, planning, imaging, computing and technology.
- To develop radiotherapy technology, techniques, utilisation, verification and quality assurance. To design, develop and manage appropriate radiotherapy systems, usage, data and databases.
- To deputise for appropriate Section Heads or senior staff in the Radiotherapy Physics Sections.
- To participate in the department's teaching and training programme for clinicians, radiographers, scientists and technologists.
