My name is James Hussain; I am the Team Manager for Secure CAMHS. We are a collaborative MDT Team with a diverse range of professional expertise.
We are seeking a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join our secure CAMHS team at Adel Beck Secure Children's home. Adel Beck is a 24‑beded secure children’s home for young people aged 10‑18, remanded or sentenced by the criminal courts, or accommodated for their own welfare.
You will work closely with the Principal Clinical Psychologist and other team members to enhance trauma‑informed care throughout the service. The role is primarily indirect, focusing on supporting staff teams, contributing to psychologically informed care, and ensuring formulation drives decision making, risk assessment, and care planning. The role also involves developing strong working relationships with all our residential staff and young people, translating psychological thinking into everyday practice and supporting the creation of safe, attuned, and consistent environments for young people.
You will be part of our Neurodevelopmental pathway and involved in assessments, working within an experienced multi‑disciplinary team and under a supportive operational and clinical leadership team.
Secure CAMHS operates Monday‑Friday 8am‑8pm (12‑hour period).
Please call if you have any questions and we encourage a visit to the service if you are offered an interview.
Main duties of the jobThis Assistant Psychologist role sits at the heart of our secure CAMHS service, working closely with the Principal Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Practitioners, Speech and Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy to embed trauma‑informed, formulation‑led practice across the whole system of care. The role is primarily indirect, with a strong emphasis on supporting staff teams, contributing to psychological thinking, and helping shape the everyday environment around young people.
- Develop and sustain trauma‑informed formulations that guide care planning, risk assessment, and intervention pathways, including regular opportunities for consultation, reflective practice, and joint formulation work alongside senior colleagues.
- Build collaborative relationships with residential care staff, translating psychological ideas into day‑to‑day interactions, and develop therapeutic relationships directly with young people.
- Contribute to the neurodevelopmental assessment pathway and neuro‑developmentally informed care planning.
- Access ongoing training, supervision, and professional development within an experienced MDT.
