Vacancy Introduction
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join our specialist Child and Young Persons Mental Health Services Eating Disorder Team. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will support the delivery of evidence‑based psychological assessment and intervention for children and young people experiencing eating disorders or disordered eating, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder.
Under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, the Assistant Psychologist will contribute to the assessment, formulation and treatment of children, young people and their families. The role will involve supporting psychological interventions, co‑facilitating therapeutic groups, collecting and analysing routine outcome measures, contributing to clinical audit and service evaluation, and assisting with research and quality improvement projects that enhance patient care.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the MDT and wider partner agencies to provide psychologically informed, family‑centred care in line with national guidance and NHS standards. The post holder will also contribute to maintaining high‑quality clinical records, supporting multidisciplinary meetings, and promoting evidence‑based practice throughout the service.
The role will be shaped to your developmental needs, and will likely involve supporting the team with:
- Conducting psychological assessments and developing formulations which draw on a range of theories and perspectives
- Delivery of individual and group therapeutic work
- Contributing to research and audit in an exciting and evolving area of clinical practice
- Engaging with community outreach and service‑user involvement, to facilitate prevention and improved access to services
You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge by attending the following: clinical supervision, multi‑disciplinary meetings, case‑formulation spaces, peer supervision groups, and ongoing internal and external training and CPD sessions. In addition, there are shadowing opportunities in other CYPMHS pathways.
