Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking enthusiastic midwives who are newly registered or soon to qualify to join our team in providing high quality, holistic care to women and their families. We welcome applications from students nearing completion of their midwifery degree (with NMC registration expected in the coming months) as well as midwives who have qualified within the past 18 months.
At this time, this recruitment is open to applicants who have completed an NMCapproved UK midwifery training programme.
The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in both the hospital and community settings, providing continuity of carer according to the local models of care. This includes partnership working with general practitioners, obstetricians, midwives, health visitors and all other agencies involved. To ensure that safe quality care is received by women and their families throughout the maternity pathway.
This exciting opportunity requires the post holder to complete the agreed WY&H LMNS preceptorship package with support and as part of their professional development and transition to Band
6.Post holders must be newly qualified with degree level qualification as the funding is for newly qualified staff only.
To aid in your application we would like you to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
Qualifications and Knowledge Essential Newly registered midwife/soon to be registered midwife 2026BA/BSc Midwifery/working towards BA/ BSc Midwifery
DesirableNIPE accreditation
Experience Essential Evidence of combining clinical knowledge, skills and understanding to deliver personalised care Awareness of own cultural competence to provide quality care that is tailored to the individual
Teaching and presentation skills
Knowledge / Training Essential Evidence based practice and/continuous professional development
Computer literacy/ IT skills
Teaching and Presentation Awareness of national and local maternity policy drivers and reports
Awareness of evidence-based and best practice approaches to the management of emergency situations
Special Knowledge/Expertise Essential Up to date knowledge of current public health issues in maternity
Facilitation of intrapartum care for midwifery and obstetric led care e.g. waterbirth, breech birth, multiples birth, prematurity.
Can demonstrate the importance of equitable & safe maternity care provision
Skills Essential Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate an awareness of the OASI care bundle in reducing, recognising & managing perineal injury

Job Summary
During the preceptorship period the midwife will have the opportunity to provide care across the perinatal pathway in a variety of settings. It will help the post holder to identify their strengths and highlight the areas requiring further development for the benefit of the women you care for. This in turn will enable you to become a confident and competent midwife, practising in accordance with the NMC Code (2018) and give you the opportunity to prepare for your first NMC Revalidation in 3 years’ time.
The Preceptorship Lead Midwife will provide the post holder with ongoing support with any additional training needs throughout the programme. Every trust across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate LMNS aligns to the National Preceptorship Framework for Midwifery.
