Linux Engineer

Location: Central London (on site 5 days per week)

Security Clearance: Candidates must be eligible for or currently hold SC or DV. Candidates must be a sole UK national/British citizen and have resided in the UK for 10 years or more.

At DXC, one of our platinum accounts has an opening for a Linux Engineer. The successful candidate will work within multiple teams and will be innovative and analytical with a good eye for detail. Your role will include implementing standards, policies, and procedures for continual service improvement.

• Provide first and second level technical support on incidents and problems
• Monitor overall system performance and ensure smooth system functionality
• Create, maintain, and utilise documentation
• Assist in building compliance with processes and policies

• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• Working to ITIL best practices
• Desire to improve processes and look for root causes of problems
• Willingness to share knowledge and learn from others
• Proactive approach to identifying risks and problems

• Proficiency in UNIX/Linux systems (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX, etc.)
• Shell scripting (Bash, Korn Shell, etc.)
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
  Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef
• Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers)
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP)
• File system management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS)
• Performance tuning and monitoring (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat)
• Exposure to automation software such as Ansible/Puppet
• Knowledge of scripting with Bash, Python, and/or Git
• Experience with AWS
• Automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
• Virtualisation and containers (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman)
