Location:
Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham
Hybrid (3 days office / 2 days home)
There is more than processing referrals and quoting. As a key technical authority within the Care portfolio you will:
- Support the highest‑level underwriting referrals and technical decisions
- Influence portfolio performance and profitability
- Drive underwriting improvements and efficiencies
- Support underwriting governance and trading strategy
- Coach and support underwriting teams across the business
- Challenge existing ways of working and help shape future solutions
- Work closely with senior stakeholders across Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial and Distribution
- Provide technical underwriting and referral authority, reviewing and supporting complex and high‑value referrals
- Act as a senior technical point of contact for the Care portfolio
- Offer expert underwriting guidance and decision‑making support
- Support delegated authority and underwriting governance activities
- Manage and monitor overall portfolio performance, analysing trends and identifying opportunities for profitable growth
- Support strategic underwriting decisions and contribute to portfolio development initiatives and product enhancements
- Build strong relationships across underwriting teams and business functions
- Coach underwriters on technical matters and work with internal teams and external partners to improve outcomes
- Act as an ambassador for technical excellence across the business
- Challenge existing processes, identify better ways of working, and support innovation and efficiency initiatives
- Help reduce complexity while maintaining strong underwriting discipline and contribute to the evolution of our Care proposition
- Significant commercial underwriting experience
- Strong technical underwriting capability
- Experience handling complex referrals and larger risks
- Knowledge of commercial liability and/or property insurance
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
- The confidence to challenge constructively and influence others
- Desire to drive improvement and make an impact
- Care sector underwriting experience
- Experience with in commercial combined business
- Exposure to portfolio management activities
- Experience working with delegated authority business
- CII qualifications or willingness to continue professional studies
- Senior Underwriter, Technical Underwriter, Development Underwriter, Portfolio Underwriter, Commercial Combined Underwriter looking for greater influence and responsibility
- Exposure to portfolio management and strategy
- A role beyond day‑to‑day underwriting
- A pathway towards future Product Head or leadership opportunities
