Rebuild repair engineer

Overview

Finning (UK) Ltd is recruiting a Rebuild Repair Engineer based in Leeds to perform reconditioning, repairs, and maintenance on Caterpillar construction equipment.

Salary: £36,100 – £41,000 per annum.

• Conduct detailed inspection of machinery to confirm or expand on field inspection reports and perform commercial assessment of likely repair, replacement or refurbishment work.
• Carry out standard diagnostic tests on machine components for accurate cost evaluation and warranty assessment.
• Produce comprehensive parts and materials lists for proposed machine preparation work.
• Undertake overhaul, repair or refurbishment work on the machine according to the agreed work plan, including removing and dispatching components for specialist attention, reinstalling original or replacement parts, and repairing existing parts.
• Inspect and test completed machines to ensure they meet expected performance levels.
• Adhere to agreed job times, maintaining high quality of finished machines.
• Maintain machine availability for hire and present stock parked in the yard.
• Ensure zero accidents by maintaining a tidy and safe working area, and uphold SHEQ obligations.

• Deep knowledge of general service manuals and the Computerised Service Information System (SIS) from the OEM.
• Practical knowledge of tooling and specialised equipment for repairs on heavy machinery.
• Proficiency in rigging, slinging and jacking procedures.
• Electrical, hydraulic and mechanical fitting knowledge.

• Background in plant machinery or similar sectors such as HGV, agriculture.
• Either apprentice‑trained or minimum 5 years’ experience in a quality service environment within a related industry.
• A licence to drive reach trucks is required.
• Practical experience operating construction equipment in confined spaces and mechanical fitting work on large‑scale machines.
