Please note that the Combined Authority will consider requests for part-time working and/or job share. We currently have a vacancy for a Bus Control Centre Manager to join our Mobility Services Team.

This is a brand new role, created to manage a new centralised bus control centre function currently in development, as part of the transition to a franchised bus network in West Yorkshire. As Bus Control Centre Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day to day operation and development of the service, to ensure delivery of business objectives to provide positive outcomes for the benefit of bus users, bus companies and the Combined Authority.

In this high-profile role, you will have a real opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience to help shape and build centralised bus control across West Yorkshire. Working closely with colleagues across the Combined Authority and its partners, a key part of your responsibilities as Bus Control Centre Manager will be engaging with local district partners to minimise disruption and keep buses moving across the network.

The role will also be integral to supporting and influencing future expansion of the service and supporting the work of the Mayor.

This role will operate on a shift pattern, however further detail of this in operational terms is still to be finalised. If you are undertaking shift work, you will receive a shift allowance of no less than 12.5% of salary. Shift work is a pattern of work with defined start and end times over the course of the day which are defined blocks of time, rotated across the course of the day and week and vary over a set period of time.

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Mobility Services, your key responsibilities will include:

• To lead the control centre function, managing the day-to-day operation and development of the service, to ensure delivery of business objectives to provide positive outcomes for the benefit of bus users, bus companies and the Combined Authority.

• To liaise with third parties to effectively manage the operation of bus routes due to emergency road closures and events, and in line with performance targets as part of the franchised network.

• To evaluate and apply best practice in leading the control centre team to further develop the control centre function to influence future expansion and development.

About You

You will have the following key skills, attributes, education, and experience:

· Extensive knowledge of highways legislation and traffic management, including the Traffic Management Act 2004, NRSWA, and associated statutory processes, with the ability to apply this knowledge to road closure management and recovery.
