Lead a Team. Drive Performance. Deliver Critical Industry Obligations.

We're looking for an experienced operational leader to join our Retail Operations team as a Metering Manager.

This role is less about being the technical expert and more about leading a high-performing team in a fast-paced, regulated environment. You'll be responsible for setting priorities, managing workloads, developing people and ensuring operational excellence across a range of critical metering activities.

You'll thrive in this role if you're someone who can balance multiple competing priorities, make decisions under pressure, build strong relationships with stakeholders and create an environment where people feel supported, empowered and accountable.

What You'll Be Doing

As Metering Manager, you'll lead a specialist operational team responsible for delivering key market obligations, customer outcomes and supporting the business through a period of significant industry change.

Your focus will be on:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing team through coaching, mentoring and clear performance management.
  • Managing competing operational priorities whilst maintaining service excellence and compliance standards.
  • Creating a culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring industry obligations, regulatory requirements and performance targets are consistently achieved.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive collaboration, influence outcomes and resolve operational challenges.
  • Supporting the business transition to Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS), ensuring operational readiness, process adaptation and successful delivery of metering-related activities.
  • Taking ownership of meter portfolio optimisation, using data and insight to improve overall portfolio performance and support wider business objectives.
  • Driving improvements in meter read and data collection performance, increasing dialling success rates and ensuring meters are consistently providing quality data.
  • Leading initiatives to improve meter health across the portfolio, identifying risks, trends and opportunities to maximise data quality and operational efficiency.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams and customers to promote the migration from traditional metering technologies to advanced and smart metering solutions where appropriate.
  • Providing meaningful insight and reporting on portfolio performance, meter health, operational risks and emerging trends to support strategic decision making.
  • Supporting business change and transformation initiatives, ensuring operational impacts are understood and effectively managed.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency and enhance customer outcomes.
  • Developing future capability through succession planning, skills development and cross-training opportunities.
  • Monitoring operational performance and using data-driven insights to support decision making and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For

We're interested in leaders who can demonstrate:

Leadership & People Management
  • Experience leading teams in a busy operational environment.
  • A track record of motivating, developing and coaching people to perform at their best.
  • Confidence managing performance, setting expectations and driving accountability.
  • The ability to delegate effectively whilst maintaining oversight of key deliverables.
Operational Excellence
  • Experience managing multiple priorities, deadlines and regulatory or contractual obligations.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A proactive and practical approach to problem solving.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement and embedding more efficient ways of working
Stakeholder Management
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience working across multiple departments and engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships both internally and externally.
Industry Experience
