Position: Support Engineer, Emmerdale – Permanent ITV Careers

Workplace:
Leeds – Nominally 5 days at base with provision for flexible working as appropriate.

The team

The Emmerdale technical team delivers comprehensive first and second-line support across studio, post-production, and location environments. From rigging and maintenance to covering key engineering roles, they ensure seamless operations while driving innovation through design and future-facing cloud and IP strategies.

The role

The purpose of this role is to deliver comprehensive first and second-line technical support across studio, post-production, and location environments, managing the full production lifecycle. You will ensure operational continuity by providing cover for the Production Applications Lead, Technical Manager, and Vision Engineer roles, while prioritising safety through risk assessments and managing workshop logistics like stock control and spare parts. Beyond daily operations, the role involves liaising with suppliers and internal departments such as Pro Vision, conducting technical quality assessments of master material and production improvement through project work.

Skills

you’ll need (minimum desirable criteria)
  • Demonstrable experience with the technical requirements of studio & post production.
  • HND/degree or equivalent (or currently studying) in a relevant subject.
  • A working knowledge of Broadcast engineering systems used throughout the production chain is essential. Applied experience of Post Production systems.
  • Cloud workflow deployment experience.
  • AI prompting, analysis and risk interpretation knowledge.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, with an ability to build successful working relationships at all levels.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • An ability to assess accurately the likely time taken to resolve a fault or breakdown so production staff & clients can be advised correctly.
  • Ability and flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to assess the quality of video colourimetry and audio signals
  • Commitment to good working practices ensuring no compromise of standards or quality of work.
  • Resilience and the ability to work under pressure.
  • IT skills, involving networking broadcast equipment, understanding of time addressable media, low latency networking, IP standards e.g. SMPTE ST2110, AES
    67 and simplified software based control systems e.g. VSM
  • An excellent understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace.
  • Influencing and persuading skills.

  • This role requires a dedicated team approach where accommodating production/client requirements involves being available as and when required. This could involve working outside office hours and/or being contactable when necessary.
