Algeco UK, a leading manufacturing facility specialising in modular buildings, is seeking a diligent and proactive Materials Buyer to join our procurement team. As a Materials Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the supply of materials and services essential for production of high-quality modular buildings. Your expertise in procurement and negotiation skills will contribute significantly to maintaining efficient operations and ensuring timely delivery of materials to meet production demands.

We provide more buildings for hire than anyone else, including modular buildings for sale and rent, and off-site permanent buildings for sale for temporary, semi-permanent and permanent use. Carnaby is the primary manufacturing site used by OSS Algeco (Off-Site Solutions).Our aim is to provide a continuous improvement programme delivering world class products through smart assembly and lean manufacturing, within a safe and productive environment.
WHATYOU WILL BE DOING
- Sourcing and Procurement:
Working with the Supply Chain Manager - Identify and source reliable suppliers for various materials and equipment required in the manufacturing process and delivery of modular buildings, ensuring a compliant and cost-effective supply. - Supplier Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate favourable terms and conditions, and continuously evaluate their performance to ensure high-quality materials and on-time deliveries. - Material Planning:
Collaborate with the Production Planner to understand material requirements and plan purchases accordingly to meet production schedules and customer demands. - Price Negotiation:
Negotiate competitive pricing and favourable terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings while maintaining the required material quality standards. - Purchase Order Management:
Manage requisitions and generate purchase orders in the company ERP system accurately and promptly, ensuring all details are correct and consistent with established procurement policies and procedures. Receipting goods and services and dealing with any invoice queries. - Inventory Control:
Working with Stores Management - Monitor and manage material inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock situations, optimising inventory turnover. - Quality Assurance:
Collaborate with the quality control team to ensure materials meet established quality standards and specifications. - Market Research:
Keep abreast of market trends, pricing fluctuations, and emerging materials to make informed purchasing decisions. - Risk Management:
Identify potential supply chain risks and implement strategies to mitigate them effectively. - Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive records of procurement activities, including supplier contracts, purchase orders, and procurement schedules. Provide regular reports on procurement performance to management.
- Experience:
In materials and hired services procurement within a manufacturing or construction environment ideally in the modular building industry. - Procurement Knowledge:
Demonstrated expertise in sourcing strategies, supplier management, negotiating procurement contracts and procurement policies and regulations. - Industry Awareness:
Familiarity with building materials, construction products, and relevant suppliers is advantageous. - Analytical
Skills:
Strong analytical skills to analyse data, assess supplier capabilities, and make data-driven decisions. - Negotiation
Skills:
Excellent negotiation abilities to secure competitive prices and favourable terms with suppliers. - Organisation:
Effective organisational skills to manage multiple material requests, purchase orders, and supplier interactions. - Attention to Detail:
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate and error-free documentation. - Communication:
Clear and concise communication skills to liaise with suppliers, cross-functional teams, and management. - Adaptability:
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, adjusting procurement strategies as per changing requirements. - Ability:
To work collaboratively and with cross functional stakeholders.
