Mechanical Fitter

Our client, a well known manufacturing business is currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced production environment, carrying out maintenance, repairs, installations, and continuous improvement activities to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical maintenance background within manufacturing, production, or industrial environments and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on manufacturing machinery and production equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise production downtime. Strip, repair, overhaul, and rebuild mechanical components including gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, bearings, and motors. Install, align, and commission new machinery and equipment. Conduct reactive maintenance in response to equipment breakdowns. Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and schematics.

Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to improve equipment reliability and efficiency. Work closely with production teams to maintain operational performance. Complete maintenance documentation accurately using maintenance management systems where applicable. Assist with shutdowns, machine upgrades, and project work as required. Skills & Experience Required Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, or similar role.

Background working within manufacturing, production, FMCG, heavy industry, food manufacturing, automotive, packaging, or industrial environments. Experience carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance. Ability to fault-find and diagnose mechanical issues efficiently. Competent in using workshop tools and precision measuring equipment. Ability to read engineering drawings. Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
