Account Manager – Media Planning & Buying

Harrogate – 3 days in the office

Reporting to an Account Director

Love media, enjoy working with clients and ready for a role with a bit more ownership?

We’re working exclusively with a Harrogate-based media agency looking for an Account Manager to join its busy team.

This is a varied media role where you’ll get involved from brief to delivery – researching audiences, building plans, buying media, managing campaigns and helping clients understand what’s working and why.

You’ll also become a trusted day-to-day contact for your clients, so this isn’t just about spreadsheets and schedules. You’ll need to enjoy building relationships, solving problems and keeping people confidently in the loop.

There’s plenty of responsibility, but you won’t be left to figure it all out yourself. You’ll work closely with an experienced Account Director and wider management team, with the opportunity to keep developing your planning, client leadership and commercial skills.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Managing client relationships – Take ownership of day-to-day communication across your accounts and become a trusted media partner.
  • Planning campaigns – Turn briefs and audience insight into clear media recommendations and detailed schedules.
  • Buying across media – Plan, negotiate and buy campaigns across a range of channels, working to secure strong value for clients.
  • Keeping campaigns on track – Manage bookings, budgets, production information, digital tracking and live campaign performance.
  • Turning data into useful insight – Lead post-campaign reporting and help clients understand what happened, what worked and what they should do next.
  • Working with partners – Build strong relationships with media owners, creative agencies, suppliers and other agency teams.
  • Supporting pitches and new business – Bring your media knowledge and ideas to proposals when opportunities come along.
  • Helping the wider team – Share your knowledge, support junior colleagues and keep everyone clear on priorities and delivery.
What You’ll Bring
  • At least two years’ experience in media planning and buying. It doesn't matter if you've only worked in one or two channels. They can teach you the others, as long as you understand the principles.
  • An understanding of how different channels can work together as part of a joined-up media plan.
  • Confidence working directly with clients and building trusted professional relationships.
  • Strong organisation, commercial awareness and the ability to manage campaign budgets carefully.
  • Comfortable working with research and campaign data and turning it into clear recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of TGI, Mediatel and other relevant media planning systems.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience supporting, guiding or managing more junior colleagues.

You don’t need to be the finished article. You do need to know your way around media planning and buying, care about doing a good job for clients and be comfortable taking responsibility for your work.

Agency life can move quickly, so being organised, collaborative and able to keep a level head when plans change will go a long way too.

Why Join?
  • Loads of variety – Work across FMCG, B2B and leisure clients, with different campaigns, audiences and media challenges.
  • Real ownership – Build strong client relationships and see campaigns through from brief to results.
  • Keep developing – Learn from an experienced Account Director and management team while building your strategic, commercial and leadership skills.
  • Supportive culture – Join a team that values integrity, fresh thinking, strong partnerships and helping each other do great work.
  • Hybrid working – Based in the Harrogate office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Generous time off – 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, with three additional days between Christmas and New Year usually treated as holiday.
  • Pension – 5% employee contribution and 3% employer contribution, with salary sacrifice available.

Know your media, care about your clients and looking for somewhere you can keep progressing?
