Community Leadership & Empowerment Worker Give A Gift Purpose of the Role

To deliver Give A Gift's Reaching Communities programme by empowering refugees and asylum seekers to become community leaders, volunteers, advocates and changemakers, through co-production, leadership development and social action.

Responsible to:
Project Director

• Build trusted relationships through outreach and engagement
• Identify and mentor emerging leaders with lived experience
• Facilitate leadership, advocacy and community development workshops
• Support volunteers into ambassador and leadership roles
• Develop refugee-led groups and peer networks
• Support community researchers and lived experience evidence gathering
• Enable participant-led social action projects
• Work with partners to influence service improvement
• Provide advice and signposting to remove barriers to participation
• Record outcomes demonstrating leadership, influence and systems change

• Experience supporting refugees, asylum seekers or marginalised communities
• Knowledge of community development and co-production
• Experience facilitating groups or training
• Excellent communication and partnership skills
• Trauma-informed and culturally competent approach
• Strong organisational and IT skills
• Commitment to equality and inclusion

• Lived experience of migration or the asylum system
• Experience of community research or participation
• Knowledge of the Leeds voluntary sector
• Experience supporting volunteers
• Relevant community language skills
