We are seeking a part‑time Practice Nurse to join our experienced nursing team at Hawthorn Surgery. The role includes long‑term condition management, cytology, vaccinations, health screening, and health promotion. Experience working in general practice is essential.
Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant must be a Registered Nurse and have current NMC registration. They will provide general nursing services and support to GPs, nurses, and patients at Hawthorn Surgery.
About usHawthorn Surgery is a GP training practice with 6,900 patients, located in Wortley Beck Health Centre, Leeds. We use System One and work closely with PCN partners.
Job responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will hold current NMC registration and will be enthusiastic, organised and confident to work unsupervised in a treatment room. An enhanced DBS check will be required. This position is not open to candidates from outside the UK, as we do not offer visa sponsorship.
The successful applicant may occasionally be asked to cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other absences.
Candidate attributes- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records using System One.
- Participate in Infection Prevention & Control procedures, including monthly, quarterly and annual audits.
- Ensure clinical equipment is maintained and appropriately stocked.
- Support quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and service development.
- Participate in practice meetings, training and continued professional development (CDP).
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
- Manage patients with long‑term conditions including diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension and coronary heart disease.
- Administer vaccinations and immunisations in accordance with national guidelines.
- Administer injections and medications under patient group direction of prescribing qualifications where applicable.
- Perform cervical screening.
- Undertake wound care, dressings, suture removal or clip removal.
- Perform to the highest standard of infection control.
- NHS health checks.
- Lifestyle advice and health promotion.
- Venepuncture, ECGs, blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis and other clinical procedures.
- Ad hoc duties as needed – home visits.
- Experience of working in general practice.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and clinical governance.
- Qualified Nurse with current NMC registration.
