Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic & motivated individual who has a passion for the delivery of high quality patient care to join the leadership on ward J12. The team on J12 are committed to keeping patients at the centre of care, creating an environment that encourages new ideas to improve care and their patients experience. There is an established preceptorship system in place to develop you in your role as a leader, along with commitment to professional development with on-going education to facilitate care delivery of the highest standards.

You will work in close partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in caring for patients with a range of respiratory conditions such as Asthma, Pneumonia, COPD and Cystic Fibrosis.

You may be an existing Band 6 looking for a new challenge or an experienced Band 5 ready to further your career, enjoy working in a fast paced environment, demonstrate excellent communication skills and an interest in leadership and management. You will also need to have the ability to deal with challenging situations in a professional and calm manner.

Why you should join our Team

The jobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with the continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the department. They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team.

The jobholder is responsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward or department’s philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. By assisting with managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will support the cost effective use of resources.

As an experienced nurse the jobholder will assist in co-ordinating activities on the ward or department ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/dept. He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

The jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

What you will bring to the role

Criteria:

Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children’s areas (Level 1 or
2)

Recognised teaching/assessing qualification (desirable)

Significant post registration experience at staff nurse level or equivalent

Working with a wide range of professionals including medical, nursing and management colleagues

Evidence of continued professional development

Current issues in health and social care

Clinical Experience with in the specialty (desirable)

Excellent written and verbal skills
