PhD Studentship – Global Methane Politics

University of Leeds
Leeds, United Kingdom

The University of Leeds is offering a funded PhD studentship titled “Global Methane Politics,” focusing on the governance, policy, and political dynamics surrounding methane emissions at the global level. This research project aims to investigate the role of methane in climate change mitigation and the international efforts to regulate and reduce emissions, particularly in the context of global climate agreements and environmental governance frameworks.

The successful candidate will explore the political, economic, and institutional challenges associated with methane reduction strategies, including the role of international organisations, state actors, and non-state stakeholders. The project will examine how methane governance is shaped across different sectors such as energy, agriculture, and waste management, and how policy instruments and international cooperation mechanisms influence outcomes.
