Due to continued growth within their environmental team, they are now seeking an Ecologist to join their Leeds office and contribute to a diverse range of projects in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.
EcologistJob Overview
- Undertake ecological surveys including Phase 1 habitat surveys, protected species surveys, and preliminary ecological appraisals
- Produce high-quality ecological reports to support planning submissions, including EcIA inputs, mitigation strategies, and biodiversity enhancements
- Provide ecological advice across multidisciplinary design teams, working closely with arboriculturists, landscape architects, and engineers
- Assist with the development and implementation of mitigation and compensation measures for protected species and habitats
- Conduct site monitoring and oversee ecological elements during construction phases to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice
- Support the ongoing growth of the ecology team and contribute to technical excellence, mentoring junior staff where appropriate
Job Requirements
- Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 12 months experience as an Ecologist in a consultancy
- Proven experience undertaking ecological surveys and preparing technical ecological reports for planning
- Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, mitigation principles, and ecological best practice
- Experience with protected species surveys (e.g. bats, GCN, reptiles) and holding or working towards Natural England licences is advantageous
- Proficiency with GIS or mapping software such as QGIS or ArcGIS
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site locations across the region
- Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
