SEMH Support Worker – Secure Unit

Permanent | Full-Time
£26,403 – £28,142 per year

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Support Worker
to join a secure children’s unit in Leeds
, supporting young people with complex emotional, behavioural, and social needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are resilient, compassionate, and committed to making a real difference.

About the Role

As an SEMH Support worker, you will work as part of a supportive residential care team providing high-quality care, structure, and emotional support to young people within a secure setting. Many of the young people have experienced trauma and require consistent, nurturing relationships alongside clear boundaries and guidance.

You will play a key role in helping young people develop life skills, emotional regulation, and positive routines within a safe and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting young people with daily routines, education engagement, and wellbeing
  • Building positive, professional relationships based on trust and consistency
  • Promoting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Contributing to care plans and risk management strategies
  • Maintaining accurate records and supporting safeguarding procedures
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external professionals
Shift Pattern

This is a full-time permanent position working on a rota basis including:

  • Early shifts and late shifts
  • Weekend working as required

Flexibility is essential due to the nature of residential care.

  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable individuals (residential care, youth work, SEMH, or similar settings desirable)
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Resilience and ability to remain calm in challenging situations

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting young people’s welfare
