QA Engineer

Location – Leeds

We are looking for a passionate Backend QA Engineer who will bring new ideas, energy, and a proactive mentality to help set the standard for QA, both within the team and across the wider group.

Background:
You will join a high-performing team of 5 Developers and 1 QA (this role). You'll help shape the evolution of gbp into a world-class platform, ensuring quality and stability across our fast-paced, multi-brand environment. You’ll work closely with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders across multiple locations to deliver reliable, high-quality backend services.

The Global Betting Platform (gbp) is Flutter’s flagship proprietary platform powering sports betting features  supports multiple brands across the group, generates 33% of total Sports book online revenue, and serves over 1.7 million active users.

• Design, develop, and implement both manual and automated tests
• Ensure product requirements are testable and validated
• Provide insights into product quality and improvements to QA processes
• Support and collaborate with developers on quality-focused practices
• Contribute across the full development lifecycle
• Offer creative and pragmatic solutions to testing challenges

What you’ll need:

• Proven QA experience in complex backend systems
• Strong automation and manual testing expertise
• Solid understanding of service-oriented architectures and APIs (REST)
• Experience with Java or similar languages
• Familiarity with test-driven development (e.g. BDD, ATDD)
• Experience with Git and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, Git Hub Actions)
• Experience with build/config tools (e.g. CHEF) is a plus

• Strong communicator, verbally and in writing, with a proactive approach
• Proactively owns and drives all aspects of QA on behalf of the team
• Ability to establish collaborative relationships with members of the development community inside and outside your delivery team, underpinned by trust, integrity, and respect
• Open to differing perspectives and able to adapt approach to achieve successful outcomes
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Able to mentor, coach, and support quality practices in the team
• Collaborates effectively in cross-functional, fast-paced environments
• Values clean code, pragmatic solutions, and continuous improvement
• Owns the creation and execution of comprehensive test plans that provide efficient and pragmatic test coverage in support of overall project objectives
