As a Senior Full Stack Kotlin Developer
, you will play an important role in making Hippo the best Consultancy out there. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team combining data, design, product, delivery, analysis and engineering to deliver bespoke digital services that make a positive and meaningful impact on organisations and society. We're confident in our abilities, authentic in our approach, and passionate about what we do.

You will act as a Senior Consultant to deliver Kotlin Development services to our clients. Senior Full Stack Kotlin Developers are experienced practitioners who lead by example, ensuring technical excellence within squads and mentoring junior members of the engineering community.

Our solutions empower our customers to build and support secure, scalable, and well-engineered systems beyond traditional boundaries that allow our customers to understand and get the most from their data and digital services. The Senior Full Stack Kotlin Developer will be a key player and implementer in this.

Please note we are looking for candidates who are looking for growth at the Senior level; therefore, the advertised salary band represents the entry point for this level, allowing for clear progression within the role, which we are very keen to support.

Your Role in a Nutshell
  • Lead the production of user-centred software, ensuring development follows business requirements and best practice.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to explore, design, and deliver solutions to complex client problems.
  • Take ownership of software development and deployment pipelines, resolving issues and potential bottlenecks.
  • Communicate and present prototypes, solutions, and progress to internal and external stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.
  • Mentoring and coaching other engineers to support their professional development.
Skills and experience that you need Essential Experience
  • Extensive experience in Kotlin and JVM
  • Strong experience in Java and the full development lifecycle delivering user-centred digital solutions.
  • Exposure to Node.js, Type Script, Express.js or Nunjucks.
  • Proven track record of contributing to the delivery of high-quality, robust, and scalable solutions.
  • Expertise in building back-end services using Spring Boot and the wider Spring Framework.
  • Experience of Microservices design and architecture, including Restful API services.
  • Strong knowledge of public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and Dev Ops practices, including containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Proficient in using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Azure Dev Ops.
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience of working on GOV/NHS projects or in a consultancy environment.
  • Knowledge of Kafka or other asynchronous messaging systems.
  • Knowledge of Helm.
