Ready to take the next step in your BI career at BW Legal?

BI Developer | Starting salary from £33,000 plus, depending on experience.

If you’re a mid-level BI professional with strong SQL, ETL and reporting experience, this is an opportunity to build on what you already know, take ownership of meaningful BI work and develop towards a more senior level within a supportive and ambitious team.

At BW Legal, data plays a central role in how we improve performance, support clients and make better business decisions. We’re looking for a BI Developer to join our Business Intelligence team and help design, automate and enhance the reporting and data solutions that keep our business moving forward. This role is ideal for someone who has already built a strong technical foundation and now wants to broaden their impact.

You’ll work across data warehousing, ETL, SQL development, MI reporting and automation, while gaining exposure to strategic projects, senior stakeholders and business‑critical decision‑making.

You won’t be expected to know everything from day one. What matters is that you’re curious, capable, technically confident and ready to keep developing. We’ll give you the chance to stretch your skills, contribute ideas, learn from experienced colleagues and see the real impact of your work across the organisation.

What you’ll be doing :
  • Develop and enhance data warehousing solutions that support changing business and client needs.
  • Build, maintain and optimise automated ETL processes and data workflows.
  • Use SQL and T‑SQL to create reliable, efficient and scalable data solutions.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into meaningful MI, dashboards, reports and automated outputs.
  • Analyse and improve existing queries, reporting processes and data models to increase performance and accuracy.
  • Support project‑led BI development, contributing to design, build, testing, delivery and ongoing improvement.
  • Respond to ad‑hoc data requests accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Champion data quality, automation and best practice to reduce manual effort and improve scalability.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to encourage effective use of BI across the business.
  • Take ownership of your conduct and behaviours, aligned to the BW Way and wider business objectives.
What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone who is technically strong, eager to keep learning and ready to grow their influence. You’ll be comfortable working with data, confident solving problems and motivated by creating BI solutions that make information clearer, faster and more useful.

Essential:
  • Commercial experience using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, typically around three years or more.
  • Strong T‑SQL skills, including query development, troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
  • A good understanding of ETL, automated data processing and workflow orchestration.
  • Experience working with data warehousing, extraction, transformation and integration.
  • Ability to turn requirements into practical, well‑structured BI solutions.
  • A collaborative approach, strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in continuous improvement.
Desirable:
  • A degree in a relevant subject such as Maths, Physics, Computer Science or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience using Python or similar tools to support data automation and development.
  • Working knowledge of data warehouse design and implementation.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar tools for reporting, dashboards and self‑service insight.
Why this is a great progression role:

This is a role where you can move beyond routine reporting and become more involved in shaping how data is designed, automated and used. You’ll have the opportunity to increase your technical depth, build confidence with stakeholders, contribute to strategic BI projects and develop the skills needed to progress your career.

You’ll be supported by a collaborative team and a business that values learning, ideas and continuous improvement. If you want more ownership, more visibility and the chance to make a measurable impact through data, this could be the right next step.
