To ensure the effective receipt, storage, handling, and despatch of goods within the warehouse and factory stores. The Warehouse Operative plays a key role in supporting production by maintaining accurate stock control, safe handling of products, and timely preparation of customer orders.
Key ResponsibilitiesGoods In & Storage:
- Receive, check, and book in deliveries of raw materials, components, and consumables.
- Accurately record deliveries against purchase orders and flag discrepancies.
- Safely move, store, and organise stock in designated warehouse and factory areas.
Stock Control:
- Maintain accurate stock levels using the company’s stock management systems.
- Conduct regular stock counts and cycle checks.
- Report stock shortages, damages, or quality issues promptly.
Order Picking & Despatch:
- Accurately pick, pack, and prepare customer orders for despatch.
- Ensure goods are labelled, palletised, and loaded in line with customer requirements.
- Liaise with transport providers and assist in loading vehicles.
Health & Safety:
- Operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other equipment safely (training provided if required).
- Comply with company Health & Safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment at all times.
Teamwork & Communication:
- Work closely with the Team Leader, Production, and Quality teams to support smooth operations.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding stock, orders, and priorities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the warehouse.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, stores, or logistics role.
- Ability to follow processes and pay close attention to detail.
- Good level of physical fitness (role involves manual handling).
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic IT skills for stock entry and order processing.
- Forklift Truck Licence (Counterbalance and/or Reach).
- Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Knowledge of despatch, logistics, or export documentation.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Safety awareness.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Problem-solving and initiative.
