Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 3+ years of specialty experience and MO or compact RN license.

Details
  • Labor & Delivery unit that shares physical space with the postpartum unit
  • Unit has 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms; postpartum unit has 15 rooms plus 2 flex rooms for labor or postpartum patients
  • Facility delivers 100-300 births per month
  • Average daily census of 7-10 patients across 28 rooms and 33 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1, but may be 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity per AWHONN staffing standards
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Weekend requirement of 4-5 shifts per 6-week schedule, including a minimum of 2 Sunday night shifts or 2 Friday day shifts per 6-week period
  • On-call requirement of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • May float to the postpartum unit to provide couplet care or care for postpartum mothers only
  • May be required to float between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Uses Peri Watch fetal monitoring application and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors
  • Would not be required to work OB triage
Requirements
  • Active RN license (Missouri or Compact) required
  • Both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact) must be in hand at time of consideration due to potential floating requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required, including 2 years of recent specialty experience with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
  • Current certifications: BLS, FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring), and NRP
  • AWHONN certification (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced) preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • LDRP experience preferred; LD/LDR-only experience will be considered
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skilled in labor and delivery management including amnioinfusion, assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, C-section circulation, forceps/vacuum extraction, and hemorrhage/shock management
  • Skilled in fetal monitoring including spiral electrode placement, internal and external fetal monitoring, IUPC placement/calibration, and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Skilled in antepartum care including sterile speculum and vaginal exams, NST, and obstetrical triage
  • Experience caring for high-risk conditions including HELLP syndrome, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, preterm labor, multiple gestation, and VBAC management
  • Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
  • Experience with postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum care, breastfeeding support, and wound assessment
  • Skilled in IV therapy and phlebotomy, including blood product administration and infusion pump management
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year
Additional Information
  • Provide comprehensive care to antepartum and intrapartum patients, including high-risk pregnancies and deliveries
  • Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries and provide immediate postpartum recovery care
  • Support neonatal resuscitation and use of radiant warmers for thermoregulation
  • Provide pain management support including epidural and PCA administration
