American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 3+ years of experience and MO or compact RN licensure.
Details- Labor and Delivery unit combined with postpartum unit in the same physical space, with 11 labor rooms, 5 triage rooms, and 15 postpartum rooms plus 2 flex rooms
- Cares for antepartum and intrapartum patients; postpartum and post-operative GYN patients are also housed in the unit
- Contracted staff not required to work OB triage
- Facility delivers 100-300 births per month
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1, but may be 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity (antepartum/cervical ripening)
- Average daily census of 7-10 patients across 28 rooms and 33 beds
- Weekend requirement of 4-5 shifts per 6-week schedule, plus minimum 2 Sunday night or 2 Friday day shifts per 6-week period
- On-call requirement of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule
- May float to postpartum unit to provide couplet care or postpartum-only care
- May float between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Uses Epic EMR, Peri Watch fetal monitoring application, and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors
- Active RN license (MO or compact) required in hand at time of consideration
- Both Kansas and Missouri or compact license required in hand due to potential floating requirements
- Current certifications: BLS, FHM, NRP (AWHONN Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
- 2 years of recent specialty experience with a full year in-specialty within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
- Epic EMR experience required
- LDRP experience preferred; LD/LDR experience also considered
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Skilled in antepartum care, high-risk delivery, fetal monitoring (external, internal, IUPC), and postpartum care
- Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, insulin drips, and antihypertensives
- Experience managing high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, preterm labor, and VBAC/TOLAC
- 2 professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from the past year
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient populations
- Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, C-section circulation, and recovery
- Support neonatal resuscitation and newborn care in the delivery room
- Perform sterile vaginal exams, fetal heart rate monitoring, and IUPC placement/calibration
- Patient assignments based on acuity per AWHONN staffing standards
- Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
- No travel partners accepted
- Maximum RTO of 7 days permitted, finalized at time of submission with no changes after offer
- First-time travelers not accepted for this position
- Employees with prior BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employment must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler; returning travelers require an 18-month tenure with a 3-month break in service
