American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 3 years of L&D experience and BLS, FHM, and NRP certifications.
Details- Labor and Delivery unit that shares physical space with the postpartum unit
- Unit houses antepartum and intrapartum patients with 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms
- Postpartum unit has 15 rooms plus 2 flex rooms for labor or postpartum patients
- Average daily census of 7-10 with 28 rooms and 33 beds total
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:1, but may be 1:2 or 1:3 for antepartum or cervical ripening patients based on acuity
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 6:45am to 7:15pm
- Weekend requirement of 4-5 shifts per 6-week schedule, including at least 2 Sunday night shifts or 2 Friday day shifts per 6-week period
- On-call requirement of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required within scope to postpartum unit for couplet or postpartum-only care
- May float between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Uses Epic charting system
- Uses Peri Watch fetal monitoring application and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors
- Active RN license, Missouri or compact currently in hand
- Both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact) required in hand at time of consideration due to potential floating requirements
- BLS, FHM, and NRP certifications required
- AWHONN Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced certifications preferred
- Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required
- Must have a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
- Epic charting experience required
- Community hospital experience preferred
- LDRP experience preferred; LD/LDR experience will also be considered
- Travel experience required
- Experience with antepartum, low-risk, and high-risk L&D care required
- Experience with EFM, spiral electrode placement, IUPC placement, and internal/external fetal monitoring required
- Experience administering Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, and insulin drips required
- Experience assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and managing hemorrhage/shock required
- Experience with postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, foley catheter management, and breastfeeding support required
- Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year
- Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient populations
- Manage high-risk conditions including HELLP syndrome, pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, VBAC/TOL, and multiple gestations
- Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulate for C-sections, and provide immediate newborn care including radiant warmer use and neonatal resuscitation
- Support pain management including epidural and PCA administration
- Not required to work OB triage under this assignment
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time off requests finalized at time of consideration
- Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
- Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service after 18 months of employment, and permanent BJC/Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
