Summary:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the procurement and optimal pricing of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, PPE, and general operating supplies. This role will oversee purchasing activities, vendor management, pricing negotiations, purchasing contracts, and inventory tracking metrics related to healthcare industry purchasing standards.
- Lead, manage, and support Purchasing Coordinators and Central Supply Coordinator(s) to ensure productivity, efficiency, and department performance.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports with input from the Accounting Manager and other leadership.
- Oversee medical supplies and drug inventory systems (Flex Scan or similar platforms).
- Track and analyze KPIs related to purchasing, vendor spend, cost savings initiatives, PPE and drug inventory levels, and other industry-related purchasing metrics.
- Assist with facility needs related to equipment and furniture movement.
- Review and analyze vendor price proposals to determine the best pricing options.
- Negotiate with vendors, obtain competitive bids when appropriate, and secure best possible contract rates.
- Assist in purchasing contract negotiations and obtain executive approval as needed.
- Collaborate with Group Purchasing Organizations to leverage best pricing and contract terms.
- Ensure consistency and standardization of contracts across multiple facilities.
- Monitor vendor compliance with contract terms and conditions.
- Verify purchase requests, compare against master lists, clarify discrepancies, and recommend alternatives when needed.
- Oversee and track monthly care center inventory counts and maintain required documentation.
- Communicate with staff and vendors to resolve issues with defective or unacceptable goods and services.
- Maintain adequate records of purchases, costs, product performance, and other relevant purchasing data including annual flu vaccine tracking.
- Work closely with pharmaceutical and medical supply vendors to ensure data accuracy and correct order configuration.
- Review historical spending to identify and execute cost savings opportunities.
- Maintain a strong understanding of healthcare purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
